Around the Web: The Future Library, Giller Longlist, an Adaptation, and Author Pets

The Future Library
In a hundred years, what will we be reading? We can’t know which new authors will be making headlines then, but a few from the present will still have new books coming out thanks to a project called the Future Library.
The Future Library is a hundred-year-long art installation started by Scottish artist Katie Paterson. In 2014, Paterson cleared some land near Oslo and planted trees. Those trees will grow for the next hundred years, and in that time, a different author will be invited to submit an original manuscript to the Future Library each year. In 2114, the trees will be cut down and made into paper on which those manuscripts will be printed. Electric Lit discusses the installation and which authors have submitted already. Check it out, though be prepared to feel a bit of FOMO if longevity doesn’t run in your family.
The Giller Longlist
Here’s something that might interest our Canadian readers. The Scotia Bank Giller Prize announced its longlist. There are some wonderful Canadian novels on it, so be sure to check it out (just be ready to add to your TBR list!).
To Kill a Mockingbird Adaptation
The beloved novel To Kill a Mockingbird is joining the ranks of classic books that have been adapted to the graphic novel format.
British artist Fred Fordham was approached in 2016 for the project. Though he was originally daunted, he took it on. For more of his views on illustrating the novel, read the full story in the Telegraph.
