Sylvia Spruck Wrigley examines science-fiction novels for older women characters and finds that, beyond a few wise old crones, there aren’t a whole lot of representations of badass grandmas in space. Thus, she asks if this reflects the ageism of our time and presents an opportunity for sci-fi writers.

I hope you’re not sick of end of the year lists yet, because I really enjoyed this one: Buzzfeed’s decade-defining words of the 2010s. If you want to see how much social media has influenced our vocabulary, this is a good starting place.
